I really love this time of year. Uggs have resurfaced, hot chocolate becomes my go to drink and the beautiful crisp mornings remind you Christmas is just around the corner. Your home instantly becomes a cosy place and you seem to spend a lot more time inside.

I discovered stove scents in the summer and fell in love with how easily they created a long lasting, house filling scent. By playing around with different  recipes I found one which makes my home smell divine.

All you need to re create my Christmas home scent are the following 3 simple ingredients:

1 whole orange
2 cinnamon sticks
Whole clove
Slice your orange and place it into a pan, pre filled with about 2 inches of water.

I then add two cinnamon sticks to the pan.

I also add a good helping of cloves to the mix.

Place the mixture over a high heat and bring to the boil.
Once boiled reduce heat and simmer. You can leave for as long as you desire. Remember to keep an eye on the water to level and keep topping up as required.

This recipe will last about 3 days, and will make your home smell sensational.

These make great DIY gifts, especially for Christmas. Pop the ingredients into a jar add some twine or ribbon and let your recipient enjoy.

I just can't explain with words how much joy my beautiful babies bring to me. They make every holiday a million time more exciting and special. I remember when I was small the traditions we had for Christmas which carried on every year until I moved out. I want my children to feel the excitement at Christmas that my Mumma created for me.

This year we have a very special visitor in our house. His name is Chippy (originally Buddy but the dvd changed his mind...!) and he's one of Santa's very own elves.
The story about Chippy is perfect, he came from the North Pole and reports back to Santa every night to let him know how Noah has been all day and he can't be touched otherwise he will lose his magic.

This morning Chippy arrived bright and early and brought a very special North Pole breakfast with him. There was candy cane fruit, snowman pancakes and Arctic chilled milk with festive striped straws.
To mark his special arrival Chippy bought Noah a couple of very special presents including 'An Elf's Story' a dvd that tells the story of Elf on a shelf and a book of Christmas stories that we can read throughout December.
I'm so excited to start creating the mischievous ways Chippy will return from the North Pole and Noah's already on his best behaviour!

Keep an eye on my Instagram to see what he's been up to.

Happy Holidays

We love the library in our house. Noah especially loves being able to go every fortnight and pick 10 new books to read at bedtime. He's drawn to Biff and Chip books as he loves that he can read them by himself, I always try and take his attention to stories we can read together.  We picked up I Love You Little Monster by Giles Andreaea and we both completely fell in love with it.
The book is about a father who is taking his little boy to bed. He tells him all about his pride, joy, hopes and dreams for his little monster whilst he thinks he's asleep.
I cried when I read this to Noah for the first time as I wasn't expecting it to be such a beautiful story. It captures all the things we say to our children and if we don't say, we feel inside.

The story is a perfect length for a bedtime story, it's bright and enticing to keep them engrossed throughout the whole story.

I've already ordered a copy for us to be able to read any time and would highly recommend to any other parent with a child of any age.

This past weekend Jay and I visited Venice. It was the most incredible dream like place I have ever visited. We spent hours exploring the back streets of San Marco and San Polo, spotting all of the beautiful little homes and stumbling across some breath taking architecture. It was so peaceful walking around, the locals were so friendly and the pace of life there was so calm. The turquoise water that filled the canals was exquisite.
Let's just say I would return in a heartbeat.

My daughter Eva is definitely well into the teething stage, although we are still awaiting the arrival of a tooth we've been taking action to help soothe her gums. Armed with teething powders and a box of teethers I thought I would share with you my favourites.

I offer them to her at different times so she doesn't get bored. Her favourite is definitely Sophie la Girafe, the shape and texture is perfect for chewing and playing with, the added squeak makes her laugh every time. Her second favourite is the Nuby Bug-A-Loop this one is really bright and has lots of different textures, you can pop it into the freezer and it stays cold for a really long time. Thirdly is the Aquafresh Milk Teeth Teething ring, this one has lots of different textures on so she can move it around in her hands and when she pops it back into her mouth she's chewing on another surface. Lastly is the Lamaze Teethimal, this one doubles as a rattle. She tends to shake this one a bit more than chew but it's good for when she wants to chomp down onto it.

I would recommend getting a few teethers for your little one as they teeth for a long time, it's an investment in the long run. They're great to pop in your changing bag and easy to whip out anywhere.

I'm always on the look out for new teethers for her to try and tend to pick something up every week.

What are your little ones favourite teether toys?

As a mother there is nothing more you want in the world than to keep your babies healthy and happy. So when one of them is ill or develops a condition it is the most heartbreaking time in the world.

Ever since Noah turned 2 he started to develop styes on his eyes, to begin with they were small and not massively noticeable. Then just after his 3rd birthday he got a massive painful looking stye which just kept getting bigger, I took him to the doctors who took one look and said its a stye its fine it will go on its own with some warm compresses. I came away and a week later I took him back as it hadn't helped at all. They prescribed him some eye cream which was designed for conjunctivitis. It helped a bit by drying the stye out but once it had popped it was left still raised and sore. Eventually it healed and there was no mark left. He carried on having redness and small styes around his eyes and after researching online it left me feeling paranoid that I was doing something wrong...Was it his diet? Was he overtired? Was he stressed? He had another large stye in the summer and then again just after the following Christmas. This time he developed Scarlet Fever so was treated with anti biotics and the stye cleared up within a few days. So when he got his next large stye I took him straight back to the doctors and explained how the anti biotics had helped and they said that they don't like to give anti biotics out unless they have to, which I completely understand to a degree but to a small 4 year old who has a huge style blocking his eye it was heartbreaking to hear. After taking him back again I finally got the diagnosis of Blepharitis. I was told it was Chronic condition with no cure, to use baby shampoo twice daily and just treat the styes as they come. That was it.

So of course I came home panicked, blamed myself and thought about how awful it was going to be for him to have to cope with this for the rest of his life. Then I cracked on with the research.

What is Blepharitis?

Blepharitis is a condition where the edges of the eyelids become inflamed (red and swollen).

The two Types of Blepharitis:
Anterior Blepharitis – where the inflammation affects the skin around the base of your eyelashes (Noah has this one)
Posterior Blepharitis – where the inflammation affects your Meibomian glands (found on the inside edge of your eyelids)

I didn't feel satisfied that there would be no cure for it, so when a family member recommended contacting a homeopath I was intrigued. I had never dealt with one before. So I told the gentleman all about Noah's condition and he came straight back to me. He recommended Pulsatilla 30. He explained to carry out the dosage on the packet for his age and see how it goes.

We have finished the dosage and along side the twice daily eye washing and I have seen a dramatic decrease in the dandruff and the redness has almost disappeared. We're still recovering from the large stye, and I'm gutted because he starts primary school this week and it's still there.

This condition isn't common in small children, so if your son or daughter is experiencing any of the similar symptoms then it would be worth getting them checked out by a doctor.
